Character Therapy

I read eight newspapers online daily, yet I don't consider myself a news junkie. Usually I am skimming for connections I can use with my students or for books that I might suggest students read. I enjoy reading the Arts and Books sections of the British newspaper, "The Guardian". It's always a treat to see how another culture looks at life or books. A semi-regular series I enjoy in this paper is called, "Character on the Couch". They cleverly interview the star actor as if the character he is playing is in therapy for analysis. It's a nice way of getting the gist of the plot from a fresh perspective. Check out Rupert Evan's comments as Romeo. What do you think about the attitude he gives Romeo? Was it how you pictured Romeo would respond?
Here's a short article from another British news source, "Italian Dies in 'Romeo' Tragedy." So , maybe it isn't only the young that are rash. What did you think after reading it?

I thought the second article was shoking because the wife acted just like Juliet when she was asking for her husband. The wife's and Juliet's conditions, alive but unable to function, are similar but Juliet purposely did that to herself and the wife couldn't controll her condition. It weird that the husbands also acted the same when they killed themselves because they thought that their wivws would never rise a again. The difference in the men was that Romeo was quick to kill himself and the Italian husband waited four months until he could take it any more. The wives waking only after their husbands had killed theirselves shows that anything worth having is worth waiting for because if you really want it you'll wait however long it takes to have it.
i found the first article to be pretty cute. very modern, same ideas, very cute. the second article i agree about with barrett about the coincidences. i sort of agree with barrett and rosalind about the guy should having waited if he really wanted his wife back. i mean, her waited four months!!!! that's already more than most people would wait! most people would have taken her off of life support after the first month or so! i seriously think that he tried to keep his hopes up, which, don't get me wrong, i think is good. the only thing is that he became in touch with reality too soon. yes, i said reality. how many people do you think would wake up after a four month coma?!?! not many, i can tell you that much!! i probably would've snapped if i had been waiting for my husband to wake up for that long too! i personally don't blame him. i do feel sorry for the wife though. too bad she didn't wake up about twenty-four hours earlier! but, concerning romeo and juliet: i think romeo wasn't thinking clearly, due to his blindness to love and hate. i think he was being STUPID!!! :0! But maybe that's just me. ;):)
I also agree with barrett with the simularities wtih this article and romeo and juliet.like how ettore(romeo)killed himself due to the loss of his wife rossana(juliet) but then shortly after she been "dead" she wakes up to frind out that her husband killed himself. the only difference is that juliet killed herself and rossana didnt. gabby, ive heard of some people that wake up from a colma after years. he probebly couldnt take it anymore, seeing his wife laying there not being able to live or talk. its hard not to be able to help your own wife. i think that this article shows alot about time. the timing between when he killed himself and when she awoken is just horrible. if i found out my husband sied like 12 hours ago and i just woken up from a colma, i would feel so angry, sad, confussed, pissed, and much more. i really didnt like how this ended. so sad!
ARTICLE ONE;
When i was reading this artice I got the impression that Romeo wasn't bothered and didn't care about anything that was happening but in the actual play Romeo seemed very involved and that he cared more. Also, i saw alot of the same themes as i did throughout the play. This article wasn't at all how i expected Romeo to act.
ARTICLE TWO;
This was a very interesting yet sad article. Just by reading "A husband in Italy who lost hope of his wife waking from a four-month coma has killed himself - only for his beloved to regain consciousness hours later," triggered my mind to Romeo and Juliet. Also, throughout reading the article i was thinking of themes that might have lead to Ettore's death. For example, time might have been responsible for his death because of the amount of time he spent with her throughout her coma(visiting up to 4 times a day). Secondly, I also find it very ironic about the many many connections to Romeo and Juliet.
The second artical was better than the first....I don't mean what happend(which is really sad)but i think it was more interesting. The second artical really resembled what happend in Romeo and Juliet. After the Husband killed himself, i thought the wife was going to kill herself.(thank GOD she didn't)I know I sound cheesy when i say this but...YOU SHOULDNT GIVE UP HOPE! The first artical was odd, and made me wonder how Romeo was still alive.
In the first article, I thought that Romeo wasn't like the Romeo we read about in class. The Romeo in "Romeo and Juliet" is more clever and choses he's words carefully. In the second article, the connection of the couple was extermely close to the tragic love story of "Romeo and Juliet". Both of the stories took place at the same place too. In both of the stories the men kills themselves first. They kill themselves because they lose hope and because they don't wait for anything else to come up.
Well I notice that the Article that the Editor wrote about some of the similar the strories that he would write first i would like to say his well most of the times this Italian Husband would take a huge step towards .I definetly agree What Barret says
I think the husband in the second article was pretty dumb there was never a guarantee that his wife was going to die.
this article was really sad in some ways. and just like in romeo and juliet time was very important.the guy had waited four months if he had waited just one more day him and his wife would be living a very happy life right now. its sad to know that but god has a plan for everything. it just relates so so much in modern day time but still has that seril feel too it like oh my god this is like a fary tale.
This post is now closed for bonus points. Mrs. Henry
